On August 9, 2008, Abrar Ul Haq along with Josh, Tariq Tafu and local bands gave a memorable performance at the Pak Day LA 2008, Exposition Park, Los Angeles. As always the event was free for public. It was the first time that Abrar performed for Jashn-e-Azadi mela in LA. An estimated 20K+ crowd were at hand that evening, electrified and brimming with patriotic fervor. The mela went on till past midnight.

Los Angeles, CA: The 60th Pakistan Independence Day celebrations at the Los Angeles Exhibition Park on August 11 furnished a truly soul-lifting spectacle. The surging crowd continued to multiply by the minute. The heavy traffic choked the nearby Kings Blvd as spirited Pakistanis sped to the park, which caused the parking lots to overflow, and forced the organizers to permit parking on nearby lawns.
Each individual in the crowd , which according to some estimates exceeded 18,000, appeared visibly charged, yet no rowdy behavior was in evidence. Instead, a rare patriotic fervor marked the proceedings.
The event generated a great deal of jollity and disciplined merriment. There were vivid manifestations of the spirit of Unity, Faith and Discipline, thanks to the splendid arrangements made by the organizers – United for Pakistan Independence Day (UFPID). Most members of the community described the celebrations as “historic” and the “best” organized in the history of Los Angeles.

UNITED FOR PAKISTAN INDEPENDENCE DAY 2007 (UFPID)

Re: Pakistan’s 60th Independence Day Celebration

This year upon the urging of the community and the appeal of the Consul General of Pakistan, Mr. Syed Ibne Abbas, several Pakistani organizations and community leaders have come together to work towards the common goal of holding only one, single Pakistan Independence Day Celebration in the Greater Los Angeles Area .

For this purpose, a united, non-partisan organization comprised of several Southern California-based Pakistani organizations and community members has been formed to hold Pakistan’s 60th Independence Day Celebration on August 11 this year.

The organization is hence appropriately named United for Pakistan Independence Day 2007 (UFPID).

This organization or alliance will not represent or promote any single cause, participating organization or individual. The only purpose of this not-for-profit organization will be to promote Pakistan , to promote friendship and solidarity among the Pakistani community, and to produce a high-quality family event that will provide education and entertainment in the true essence of our culture and heritage.

No individual or organization will be charged with the responsibility to head this alliance, and there will be no Presidents or Committee-Chairs. The affairs of this organization will be handled in a truly democratic manner by an Executive Committee.

The Executive Committee, comprised of an Organizing Committee and an Advisory Committee, has been formed to organize the event. The Organizing Committee will be responsible for all the operations and the Advisory Committee will perform as the overseer or adviser for this event.

It is in this spirit of friendship and community solidarity that we wish to cordially invite all the community members to support this important event. Let’s all celebrate this day together and in the manner that is befitting our great nation of Pakistan.

Firstly, a funny skit played by Aziz and Sal.

Aziz, who smells like curry, has just come from Lahore and he is boarding room with Sal who is a a cross between Atif Aslam and Tupac Shakur. This was a crowd favorite.

1. Sal has just found out that he is rooming with a Freshman who is a FOB.

2. Aziz throws curry powder on Sal

3. Sal and Aziz arguing over pakistani culture and the difficulties they faced growing up.

4. Aziz and Sal make up with eachother after Aziz tries to hook him up with a girl that he likes.

PAKISTANI STUDENTS FROM SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA HOST CULTURE SHOW “RISTHON KE RANG: PASS THE MIRCH PLEASE!”

The Pakistani Student Associations from USC, UCLA, and UC Irvine presented the community with an elaborate show which highlighted the vibrant aspects of Pakistani culture. On April 1^st 2007, USC’s Bovard Auditorium welcomed about 900 guests; both Pakistani and non-Pakistani, to a fundraising charity show where all proceeds would go directly Islamic Relief. The show was structured with an elaborate skit with energetic dances intertwined into the storyline.

The three schools had been organizing the event since the beginning of this school year in hopes of raising a significant sum of monetary donations to help our less fortunate community in Pakistan. The production of the show was on such a large scale that it required the involvement about 100 participants and volunteers from all three schools. This event was made possible through the support of Friends of Pakistan, Your Dil LA, Waqar Ali Khan from GEO TV, Safeer Pakistan along with the media coverage provided by Pakistan Link,, Urdu Times LA, PakistanNews LA, Pakistan Post, Pakmusic, Pakstop, Sunzara.com.

As the title states, the show explored the relationships of Pakistani Americans. It focused on highlighting the different angles in our society and how Pakistani college students use their heritage to identify themselves in a Western society.

The show was received well with an entertained audience that enjoyed all of the humors and spectacles of the evening. There were moments of high spirited amusement along with pride filled moments where the entire hall cheered to video clips that highlighted Pakistan achievements in the past and present.

Pakistani Student Association is dedicated to bringing the community together in order to honor the culture and traditions of Pakistan.

Thank you to everyone who came out to support the show. Your attendance is an encouraging response to strive to organize more fundraising events in the future!

1. First one is a small video clip that was played on the projector screen at the beginning of the show. It basically shows who the participants in the show are and what they do in real life.

2. The 2nd clip is a dance perfomance to the tune of “Mr Fraudiye” by Awaz. If you have seen the original music video with Fakhir and Haroon, you would appreciate what these dancers are trying to duplicate.
