Description of the documentary:

Commemorating Freedom & Independence on the occasion of Pakistan’s 63rd Independence Day on 14 August 2010, this video presents a nostalgic and insightful glimpse of the country’s journey of struggles & independence, first from the British Raj, and an assortment of adversities ever since.

The 20 minute documentary begins with memories of the historic independence achieved through the freedom movement which eventually carved Pakistan out of the Indian sub-continent.

Although perpetually facing a variety of afflictions since independence, the nation is reminded of the numerous achievements and accomplishments of Pakistan with reflection and motivation through the wise words of Pakistan’s founding father, Quaid-e-Azam Mohammed Ali Jinnah, who had envisioned great prosperity for Pakistan; provided the principles he laid down were observed sincerely.

Yet, with the perpetual political, economic and international challenges including threats and destruction from terrorism and natural disasters, it is inevitable to experience the spirit of patriotism and motivation faltering. Especially at this juncture of uncertainty and despair surrounding the Pakistani nation.

Quaid-e-Azam’s wisdom and far-sightedness is proven phenomenal with each of his messages hitting bull’s eye even today – 6 decades later.

The evergreen messages of Quaid-e-Azam ignite a spirit of Hope & an urge for Freedom from despair or hopelessness, while establishing Faith, in the fact that with our national heritage of sacrifice and struggles, ‘we shall emerge triumphant’, IF we establish a sense of responsibility and individual honesty.

The documentary was conceived, researched and edited by Haris Zuberi.

Missing In Pakistan

As we get closer to Pakistan Independence Day, 14th August 2008, and Pak Day LA, lets not forget hundreds of citizens of Pakistan that have gone missing since 2001. They are victims of Pakistan’s state-sponsored kidnapping. Some of them have reappeared in Gitmo prison, while others have vanished without a trace leaving behind worried and hurt loved ones.

Case in point: Dr. Afia Siddiqui

Aafia Siddiqui, whom the US accuses of al-Qaeda links, vanished in Karachi with her three children on 30 March 2003.

Why was she kidnapped? The answer may lie in the BBC article.

The answer may lie in her relationship with the family of alleged 9/11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed.

Aafia Siddiqui is said to have married Ali Abd’al Aziz Ali, one of his nephews following her divorce.

Although her family denies this, the BBC has been able to confirm it from security sources and Khalid Sheikh Mohammed’s family.

It is an open secret in Karachi, that any member of Khalid Sheikh Mohammed’s family deemed to be “a 1% threat to US security” is in American custody.

That may be the only “crime” that Aafia Siddiqui has committed.

In the eyes of US and Pakistani security officials, it was apparently too big to ignore.

I am not sure if he is afghan or iranian. On is webpage it says he was born in Iran but somewhere else afghanis are claiming him to be one of their own. He lives in germany and is all the rage in afghan/persian music with his debut album: After Love
